What’s ET Short for?
"Because he’s got little legs." Of course, if you didn't know it already, ET stands for extraterrestrial. If you've never seen the movie, then you should grab your dad and ask him to watch it with you. By the end of the movie, you're bound to hear a bunch more ridiculously corny jokes come out of him.
ET (short for extraterrestrial) is the title character of the 1982 Steven Spielberg classic film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. The movie follows the story of a young boy named Elliott who discovers and befriends an alien stranded on Earth. The alien, affectionately named ET, is a lovable and curious creature who quickly becomes part of Elliott's family.
The movie was a huge success, earning a total of $792 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing film of all time until it was surpassed by Jurassic Park in 1993. The film was also nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won four. It has since become a classic, beloved by generations of movie-goers.
ET is widely recognized for his oversized head, long neck, and disproportionately short legs. He also has glowing fingers, which he uses to communicate with Elliott and his friends. His iconic line, "E.T. phone home," has become a popular catchphrase.
The movie has also spawned a variety of merchandise, including action figures, video games, and even a themed ride at Universal Studios. In 2020, a sequel to the film, titled E.T. Adventure, was announced.
