There’s nothing wrong with taking pictures of yourself every once in a while, but there are important selfie mistakes to avoid. Make sure you take a good look at your photos before you post them to Facebook or Instagram. You don’t want to embarrass yourself in an easily avoidable way. Here are the biggest, silliest selfie mistakes that people have made in the past:
1. Being Caught
Even if the picture looks cute, being caught taking it can be embarrassing. You don’t want your crush or parents watching you make faces into your phone for hours on end. One of the biggest selfie mistakes is to assume that you’re alone, without actually checking for onlookers. Make sure that no one is lurking around when you’d rather preform your photoshoot alone.
2. Background Check
If you’re taking snapshots while in your room, make sure you clean up a bit. You don’t have to put everything in order, but make sure there’s nothing embarrassing within the frame. Everyone has piles of dirty laundry and teddy bears, but you probably don’t want everyone to see it. It’s better to be safe than sorry, so tidy up a bit.
3. Beware of Mirrors
Mirrors are a dangerous force to be reckoned with. If there are any behind you during your photo, you have to be extra cautious. You don’t want the camera to catch something that it’s not supposed to see. When you look over your selfie, make sure you check the entire picture, and not just your pretty face.
4. Posting Every Single One
Some pictures should be kept to yourself or deleted. You don’t need thirty snapshots of you staring into a camera with the same pose. You’re as beautiful as they come, but you don’t have to flaunt it. One or two selfies a day is enough, if not too much. You wouldn’t want to make your followers jealous of your perfection, now would you?
5. Weird Faces
The duck face’s popularity has decreased, so use it sparingly. Sometimes, you just want to make a silly face. However, you need to know when to keep it serious. If you’re lucky enough to get a selfie with the president, you might want to keep your tongue in your mouth.
6. Wardrobe Malfunction
This applies to any time you’re getting your picture taken, whether you’re the one holding the camera or not. Check your clothes to make sure that everything is in place, and check your teeth to make sure they're sparkly clean. You don’t want to accidentally show off more than you intended. Try to keep your pictures rated G.
7. Letting Others See
If the photo album on your phone consists of hundreds upon hundreds of selfies, don’t let acquaintances flip through them. You might think the album deserves to be hung in a museum, but some people are a little more critical of selfies. If they see your phone overflowing with them, they could tease you. Of course, real friends will stand right by you and fill up that phone with even more pictures.
As much as people make fun of selfies, there's nothing wrong with taking pictures of yourself. Don't be ashamed! You're just trying to have a bit of fun and feel pretty. Do you love taking selfies, or are you camera shy?
