1. Blurred Lines

Of all the awesome parodies I've seen, this is my current favorite. If you were outraged by the sexist lyrics and video of 'Blurred Lines,' definitely do watch this smart, funny feminist answer. Don't watch if you're easily offended by strong language.

2. First Kiss

Did you catch the recent 'First Kiss' video, where strangers kiss? Apparently a commercial, it was still rather sweet. Not so this parody, which introduces strangers to kill for the first time …

3. Poker Face

Some may suspect that Lady Gaga is herself a parody, but it was inevitable that she would provide inspiration for more than one person. Venetian Princess has done a number of very professional parodies on YouTube, including versions of songs by Britney Spears, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.

4. White and Nerdy

The king of the parody has to be Weird Al Yankovic, who was doing masterful parodies before most of you were born. Many artists consider it an honor to have one of their songs chosen by Weird Al! It was really tough to pick out one song from among his vast body of work, but enjoy this version of Chamillionaire's 'Ridin.'

5. Walking Dead Mad Men

Now we move onto TV, with this mashup of Mad Men and The Walking Dead. The humor here comes from two completely different genres mixed together. Will the survivors be safe in the office? How will the agency adapt to the zombie holocaust?

6. Terminator Jesus

I've watched this several times and it still makes me laugh. The Terminator travels back in time to save Christ from crucifixion. In his single-minded focus on his mission, he doesn't quite understand the finer points of theology …

7. Blazing Saddles

Forty years old and still as funny as ever, this Mel Brooks film is a spoof of the Western genre. If you haven't yet seen the movie, the campfire scene is a classic that will have you laughing in a very juvenile fashion. And the whole movie is a gem.

8. Life of Brian

'He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!' There are so many quotable lines in this parody of Biblical movies, but this is one of the best-known. Poor Brian is mistaken for Christ, which leads him into danger at the hands of the Roman occupiers. But remember, always look on the bright side of life …

9. Naked Gun

Based on the series Police Squad, the Naked Gun movies parodied featured hapless detective Frank Drebin, a disaster in human form who somehow managed to pull the beautiful Priscilla Presley. If you like slapstick humor you'll definitely appreciate these movies. Do check out the series as well.

Parodies are so popular that there are countless versions on the same theme. The best are very well done indeed. It's a very popular genre that will continue to thrive, given the vast amount of serious material to parody. What is your favorite type of humor?
