Everyone is constantly on their phone, but there are text messages no one wants to receive. When your phone lights up, you expect it to be something exciting--or at least something that will hold your interest for more than ten seconds. However, there’s always the possibility that you’ll receive one of these horrid text messages:
1. The Wifi is down
Now, you’d probably figure this out before your parent or roommate texted it to you, but it’s a horrible message nonetheless. What could be worse than being disconnected from the internet? You couldn’t check your email or social media, you couldn’t see what your favorite celebrities were up to, and you couldn’t even Google how to fix the problem. Text messages regarding the death of your router are never fun.
2. I Ran into Your Ex
Unless your friend is texting you to say how miserable your ex looked, you don’t need to hear about him. If you already moved on, you don’t need her to bring him back into your thoughts. If you’re still in love with him, your friend’s going to be bombarded with question after question. You’ll need to know what he was wearing, how happy he looked, and how long his beard hair was.
3. Who’s This?
It’s frustrating when you send out a nice, sweet text to a friend and they respond with, “Who is this?” They probably got a new phone and didn’t transfer all the old numbers into it yet, but you’re still angry, even if you don’t have a reason to be. If they cared about you, they’d know your number! There’s no reason to even continue the conversation after that.
4. Can I Ask You a Question?
You have free will and freedom of speech, so of course you can ask a question. But by asking if you can ask a question, you’ve terrified the answerer of the question. Follow? There’s no reason to set up your question like that. It’s only going to scare the other person away.
5. We Need More Milk
If your roommate or partner texts you this, it means you have to head to the store. If you have to head to the store, that means you'll be around aisles and aisles of food. You're not going to be able to pick up milk and go straight home, because it's impossible to leave a grocery store without two bags of food that you didn't actually need. Getting a text about milk only leads to you emptying your wallet and buying too many bags of chips.
6. When Will You Be Home?
If you're living with your parents, you probably get this message a lot. They want to know if you'll be home for dinner or by your curfew. It sounds like such a simple question, but answering is impossible. You'll leave when you and your friends are done having fun. You can't predict the future.
7. Are You Free This Weekend?
If someone starts off like this, it's hard to come up with an answer. If you say you're free, they might ask you to do something you don't want to do. If you lie and say you're busy, you might miss out on the chance to do something super fun. It's a lose-lose situation.
Keeping in touch with your friends is as easy as touching a screen, but texting isn't always a great experience. What’s the worst thing that someone could possibly text you?
